08-May-08 - Former Tour Star Heading for Memorial Cup!
Judd Blackwater, 20, of Lethbridge is playing a major role for the Spokane Chiefs' drive to the 2008 Memorial Cup. Judd played many Tour events and qualified for the Tour Championship at age 12, and won his first Tour event at age 14. By the time he was 16, he was one of the top junior golfers in Alberta, but chose to concentrate more on his hockey career than golf. Blackwater had 31 goals and 29 assists in 71 games during the regular season for the WHL Champion Chiefs, who ousted the Lethbridge Hurricanes in 4 games for the "DUB" title. Blackwater has picked up his pace during the playoffs, with 10 goals and 8 helpers in 21 games. Good luck to Judd during the Mem Cup!
07-May-08 - Only a month to go!
The first event on the 2008 Tour schedule comes up a month from tomorrow in Golden, BC on June 7. The first Tour event in Alberta is the following Saturday in Drayton Valley. Courses are open now around the province despite our late spring, so plan your Tour schedule now, and enter early to avoid disappointment. Players should take a few minutes and review the Tour's Code of Conduct to refresh their knowledge of what is expected from competitors at Tour events.
07-May-08 - Get Out Those Rule Books!
There are several changes to the Rules of Golf this year; some of which are fairly minor, but there are some major changes that will occur often. For example, if a player in stroke play hits himself or his equipment with his golf ball, it is now only a 1-stroke penalty instead of 2 strokes. Also, there is now a 2-stroke penalty for hitting a wrong ball out of a hazard (bunkers or water hazards) so you now may identify your golf ball in a hazard. Players should make themselves familiar with the procedures involved. Get online to the RCGA website and go to their Rules section. The major changes are listed, and you can take online quizzes to test your knowledge. Remember, it is the player's responsibility to know the Rules! They can be your friend!
